| With the growing concern over the spread of aquatic invasive species to Wisconsin’s inland lakes, many lake association members and other concerned citizens are looking for ways to get involved. The Clean Boats, Clean Waters volunteer watercraft inspection program is an opportunity to take a front line defense against the spread of aquatic invasive species. Through the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program, volunteers are trained to organize and conduct a boater education program in their community. Adults and youth teams educate boaters on how and where invasive species are most likely to hitch a ride into water bodies. Volunteers perform boat and trailer checks for invasive species, distribute informational brochures and collect and report any new water body infestations. On Lake Lucerne we are looking to continue the program that was started last year. We are in need of volunteers who are willing to be trained to identify invasive species and then spend at least one shift this summer inspecting boats and personal watercraft entering the lake. We currently are planning 3 shifts/weekend; 12 PM to 4 PM on Friday, 8 AM to 12 PM on Saturday and 12 PM to 4 PM on Saturday. Adults (husband and wife, individually or two people) are asked to help. Children should be accompained by adults. Children who need volunteers hours for their school will be issued a letter from the Lake Lucerne Advancement Association documenting their hours. As a volunteer watercraft inspector you will have three main duties; visually check boats and recreational equipment for any hitchhiking plants or animals, demonstrate how to clean recreational equipment and what preventation steps boaters need to take everytime they leave the water, and distribute educational materials. If interested there will be a training session on DATE TO BE ANNOUCED at the Lake Lucerne Advancement Association Clubhouse. Interested volunteers are asked to complete the form below. You will be contacted by the LLAA chairman to confirm your date. |
